Steady Wisdom: Day 106

Steady Wisdom: 108 Verses On Changing My Thinking

DAY 106

In these words I’ve proclaimed the vision of the highest reality, the supreme conclusion of Vedanta.  If a man becomes convinced of it, he is liberated.  Like space, he is no longer tainted by activity in this world.
-Shankara (Upadesha Sahasri 10:14, Metrical)
Meditation

I have seen the vision of the highest reality and it is, “I am brahman.”  Now that this is clear, I understand that I have always been free and I will always be free.  The illusory body-mind and its activities in the equally illusory world appear in me like objects appearing in space.  Similar to the way that space is never tainted, divided or changed in any way by the objects that appear in it, I am never tainted, divided or changed in any way when the body-mind and the world appear in me.  OM.

Steady Wisdom: 108 Verses On Changing My Thinking

DAY 102

That one without a second, of the nature of consciousness, space-like, transcendent, ever-shining, unborn, indestructible, taintless, omnipresent—I am that.  I am ever-free.  OM.
-Upadesha Sahasri 10:1 (Metrical)
Meditation

I am consciousness, the self-evident reality, one without a second.  Nothing other than me exists, so there is nothing to limit me, there is nothing to taint me.  Like all-pervasive space is untouched and undivided by the objects it accommodates, I am untouched and undivided by the illusory objects that appear in me.

Because I am existence itself, I was never born, for there is never a time when existence did not exist.  Because I was never born, I am not subject to death (destruction).  I am ever-free because I was never bound.  OM.

Steady Wisdom: Day 88

Steady Wisdom: 108 Verses On Changing My Thinking

DAY 88

I am pure consciousness, not subject to modification.  In my true nature I have no relation with any object.  Established in my own self, I am unborn perfect infinity, extending to the front, the sides, below, above, everywhere.
-Upadesha Sahasri 10:2 (Metrical)
Meditation

I am pure consciousness. I never become the objects that appear in me, nor am I affected by them.  I have no relation with any object because objects do not exist.  Or alternately, I have no relation with any object because all objects are in truth nothing but myself.  Relation can only occur between two different things—but I alone exist so this is not possible.

I am unborn, perfect and infinite.  Until this fact is perfectly clear, I meditate on this knowledge until my mind becomes firmly established in it.  OM.

Steady Wisdom: Day 79

Steady Wisdom: 108 Verses On Changing My Thinking

DAY 79

For me who am ever liberated, pure, changeless, immortal and indestructible there is no hunger, thirst, grief, delusion, old age or death.  For I am bodiless and all pervasive like the either.
-Upadesha Sahasri 13:3-4 (Metrical)
Meditation

The body appears in me, all-pervasive consciousness-existence, like an object appearing in space.  Just as space is untouched by the inherent defects of objects, I am untainted by the inherent defects of the body such as hunger, thirst, etc.  I do not need to be liberated from the body because I was never bound by it—for how could I be bound by an unreal appearance?  The unreal appearance called “body” is mortal and subject to destruction.  This much is obvious.  What is also obvious is that because I am unaffected by the appearance of the body, I immortal and indestructible.  OM.

Steady Wisdom: 108 Verses On Changing My Thinking

DAY 74

Just as space pervades everything, I pervade space.  I am changeless, motionless, pure, ageless, ever-liberated, one without a second.
-Upadesha Sahasri 12:19 (Metrical)
Meditation

Like space, I do not change, I do not move, I do not decay.  Like space, I am untainted and unencumbered by the objects that appear in me.  Like space, I am division-less and one without a second.

However, while all objects appear within space, space itself is an object that appears in me, consciousness-existence.  Further, while all objects depends on space to exist, space depends on me, existence itself, to exist.  The conclusion: I am ever-free—I depend on nothing to be the limitless reality that I am.  OM.
